Warning Signs

Is Your Pool Actually Leaking?

Gold Coast pools lose 25–50mm per week to evaporation in summer — so a dropping water level alone doesn't confirm a leak. But if you're seeing any of these signs, it's time to call us:

Topping up the pool more than once a week (outside of summer evaporation)

Water bill has increased without an obvious explanation

Wet, boggy, or unusually green patches of lawn between the pool and the pump

Pool chemicals constantly out of balance despite regular dosing

Cracks visible in the pool shell, tiles lifting, or grout washing out

Pool level drops faster when the pump is running than when it's off

Damp or staining on the pool surrounds or retaining walls

Pool equipment running louder than usual (pump cavitating from low water)

The Bucket Test — Do This Tonight

Fill a bucket with pool water, place it on a pool step, and mark both the bucket water level and the pool water level. Leave for 24 hours with the pump off. If the pool drops noticeably more than the bucket, you have a leak. If they drop equally, it's evaporation. This simple test saves you a callout fee — and if the pool is leaking, it confirms you need us.

Our Equipment

The Tools That Find Pool Leaks Others Miss

We invest in professional-grade pool leak detection equipment because guesswork costs you money. Every tool in our kit has a specific job — and together they give us a complete picture of your pool's integrity.

The Leakalyzer

Rapid Water Loss Sensor by Anderson Manufacturing

The Leakalyzer is the gold standard for confirming whether a pool is actually losing water — and how fast. This precision instrument measures water level changes to 1/10,000th of an inch and plots real-time data on a digital graph. In 5–10 minutes, we can confirm a leak, quantify the loss in litres per hour, and compare pump-on vs pump-off data to determine whether the plumbing or the shell is the source. It's the difference between guessing and knowing — and it means we never start digging without proof.

Pressure Testing

Isolate every plumbing line

Once the Leakalyzer confirms a leak exists, pressure testing isolates exactly which plumbing line is failing. We plug each line at the pool end and pressurise it with air. A line that holds pressure is intact; one that drops has a leak. This methodical process — testing suction lines, return lines, cleaner lines, and spa circuits separately — tells us precisely where to look before a single shovel goes in the ground. No exploratory excavation, no guesswork.

Pinpoints which line is leaking

Dye Testing

Underwater leak pinpointing

Dye testing is how we find shell cracks, fitting leaks, and skimmer box failures. We inject a small amount of coloured dye near a suspected leak point — and if the dye gets drawn into the crack or fitting, we've found it. This is where we get in the pool (no complaints from us in a Gold Coast summer). Dye testing is precise, non-damaging, and works on fibreglass, concrete, and tiled pools. It's particularly effective around lights, returns, spa jets, and the skimmer box joint.

We get in the pool — no hesitation

Acoustic Listening Equipment

Hear leaks underground

For underground plumbing leaks, acoustic detection lets us hear the pressurised water escaping through a pipe failure — without digging. Ground microphones and acoustic correlators pick up the leak's frequency signature through soil, concrete, and pavers. By measuring the signal from two points, we calculate the leak's exact position along the pipe run. The result is a precise excavation point — one small dig at the right spot, rather than trenching the entire pool surrounds.

No exploratory digging

Array of Pool Plugs

Isolate shell from plumbing

Our comprehensive set of pool plugs — sized for every fitting, return, skimmer, and drain — allows us to isolate the pool shell completely from its plumbing system. With all lines plugged, a pool that continues to lose water has a shell or fitting leak; one that holds level has a plumbing leak. This simple but critical isolation step directs all subsequent testing and prevents misdiagnosis. We carry plugs for every standard pool fitting type used on the Gold Coast.

Shell vs plumbing isolation

How It Works

Our 6-Step Pool Leak Detection Process

Every pool leak detection follows the same methodical sequence. No guesswork, no exploratory digging, no unnecessary expense.

01

Leakalyzer Confirmation

We deploy the Leakalyzer first. Within 5–10 minutes we have real data: is the pool leaking, how fast, and does the loss change when the pump is on or off? Pump-on vs pump-off comparison immediately tells us whether the plumbing or the shell is the likely source.

02

Shell Isolation with Pool Plugs

We plug every fitting, return, skimmer, and drain. With all plumbing isolated, we watch the water level. If the pool holds, the plumbing is leaking. If it keeps dropping, the shell or fittings are the source. This one step directs everything that follows.

03

Pressure Testing All Lines

Each plumbing circuit — suction, return, cleaner, spa — is pressurised and monitored. A circuit that drops pressure has a leak. We test each line independently so we know exactly which one to excavate, and exactly where.

04

Dye Testing & Underwater Inspection

For shell and fitting leaks, we get in the pool. Dye is injected near suspected points — skimmer joint, lights, returns, visible cracks. Where the dye is drawn in, that's the leak. It's precise, non-damaging, and works on any pool type.

05

Acoustic Pinpointing (if underground)

If a plumbing line has failed underground, acoustic equipment locates the exact point along the pipe run. We calculate the position from two measurement points, mark the ground, and excavate only at that spot — typically a 300–600mm opening rather than a full trench.

06

Repair & Verify

Most repairs are completed on the same visit — skimmer reseals, fitting replacements, minor pipe repairs. We re-run the Leakalyzer after repair to confirm the leak is gone before we leave. You get a written report with photos, findings, and the repair completed.

Why Creative Coast

Find It AND Fix It — Same Visit

We're Licensed Plumbers, Not Just Detectors

Most pool leak detection companies find the leak and leave you to organise a plumber for the repair. We're QBCC-licensed plumbers with 18+ years on Gold Coast tools — we locate the leak and repair it in the same visit. One call, one invoice, one less headache.

We Actually Get In The Pool

Underwater dye testing is the most accurate way to find shell cracks and fitting leaks — and it requires someone in the water. We don't send a camera on a stick and call it done. We suit up, get in, and do the job properly. In a Gold Coast summer, it's honestly one of the better parts of the job.

Fixed Written Quote Before Any Repair

We assess the job, find the leak, and give you a fixed written price before any repair work starts. You decide with full information — no hourly rate surprises, no 'we found more while we were in there' add-ons.

Insurance-Ready Reports

Every pool leak detection includes a written report with photos, findings, and the repair completed. Body corporates, property managers, and insurers across the Gold Coast accept our reports — which speeds up claims and repair approvals.

Pricing That Makes Sense

Swimming pool leak detection starts from $450 + GST. That covers the full diagnostic process — Leakalyzer, pressure testing, dye testing, acoustic scanning. If a repair is needed, you get a separate fixed quote. Most customers recover the detection cost in their next two water bills.

We Cover the Entire Gold Coast

From Coomera to Coolangatta, Labrador to Robina — we service every Gold Coast suburb. Same-day bookings are available most weekdays, and we prioritise pools that are losing significant water volume.
